Mumbai: Railway protection force of western railway save 20 lives between january to may 2022 with their alertness. In the journey towards excellence, Western Railway has outdone itself year after year. Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Western Railway plays a vital role to facilitate and enhance the security of its passengers and to save their lives.
WR is deeply concerned about the safety and security of its passengers. RPF is continuously striving to facilitate and enhance security of its passengers. The Railway Protection Force is playing a vital role in assisting the passengers travelling in railways, and also provide help and rescue passengers specially women and children in need of care and protection. The alert RPF personnel in most cases have saved the lives of those passengers, who are sometimes negligent and face danger while boarding or alighting running trains. At times lives have been saved while attempting suicide. This act of lifesaving results in jubilation, happiness and gratitude beyond words towards the RPF personnel.
Shri Thakur further informed that at times the RPF face diverse security challenges such as crime against passengers and railway properties, extreme violence, obstruction to train movement, rescuing missing children and seizing narcotics in trains and railway premises, retrieving of passengers’ luggage etc. Amidst all this they keep a close watch on the safety of passengers. Being “citizens in uniform” the RPF personnel go beyond the call of duty risking their own lives to save other lives. There have been incidents wherein passengers trying to board/de-board a moving train slip and fall with the risk of coming under the wheels of train. Under mission “Jeevan Raksha” RPF personnel, risking their own lives, saved 20 lives during the month January to May 2022. Out of these incidents, 14 cases of lifesaving incidents were registered in Mumbai Division alone, 3 cases in Vadodara Division and 02 cases in Ratlam Division and 01 case in Rajkot Division. It is worthwhile to mention that during the year 2021 also, the RPF personnel of Western Railway saved life of 34 passengers. Under “Operation Matrishakti”, RPF personnel, especially ladies RPF personnel, go out of the way to help pregnant women, who go into labour during their train journeys.
Shri Thakur said that, RPF personnel acknowledge that deployment in mass contact areas makes it Mandatory for them to have requisite soft skills and have a service orientation. On the basis of feedback from passengers, they are continually fine tuning and upgrading their skills and performance to help nation and its citizens better.
