A second Navy Band contingent will simultaneously perform at Marine Drive, also between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. This too is open to the general public.

All Mumbaikars are cordially and respectfully invited to join in and be part of all segments of the commemorative event.

It may be recalled that the Naval Uprising started onboard HMIS Talwar in Mumbai on 18 February 1946 against the British government in India. From that initial flashpoint, it spread rapidly and found support throughout India, from Karachi to Kolkata, and ultimately came to involve over 20,000 sailors in 78 ships and shore establishments. It also received an upsurge of support from the civilian public all across, the people of Mumbai taking to the streets in thousands to strengthen it. The event shook the very foundation of the British government in India and has since been viewed as a key event of the freedom movement.

To commemorate the Uprising, the Memorial was erected at Cooperage in Colaba, Mumbai, by the Western Naval Command on 04 December 2001.
