Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated a 3 – day National Seminar on ‘Role of Indian Languages in Nation Building’ in Mumbai on Tuesday (22 Mar). The Seminar has been organised jointly by the Central Directorate of Hindi in association with the Smt Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University Mumbai.
Chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chancellor of Lal Bahadur Shastri Sanskrit University Murli Manohar Pathak, Editor of Rashtra Dharma Om Prakash Pandey, Vice Chancellor of SNDT Women’s University Ujwala Chakradeo and organiser of the Seminar and Head of Sanskrit Department of SNDT Women’s University Dr Jitendra Kumar Tiwari were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Koshyari asserted that Indian languages have played a crucial role in national integration. He stated that enrichment of Indian languages is essential for India’s renaissance and reconstruction. He appealed to the students to take pride in their mother tongue and make India a Jagad Guru.
Chairman of NAAC Bhushan Patwardhan said languages play an important role in building a nation and character. Stating that Sanskrit language is a bank of ideas, he said research into the language could help to make India a leader in Science and other streams.
