Mumbai: ADG KR Suresh Takes Over as the Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard). Additional Director General ADG Kandambakkam Ramani KR Suresh, PTM, TM, on promotion has taken over as the Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), Mumbai on Tuesday, 13 Sep 22. The Flag Officer will head the Indian Coast Guard Western Seaboard, which includes Coast Guard Region (West) and Coast Guard Region (North West), looking after the Ocean security of the sensitive maritime boundaries from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman, Diu, Karnataka and Kerala including L&M Islands.
In his 35 years of illustrious service, the Flag Officer has held various important command and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. He has commanded Indian Coast Guard ships — Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Sagar, Offshore Patrol Vessel Varuna, Fast Patrol Vessel Annie Besant and Inshore Patrol Vessel Kittur Chennamma. His important command appointments ashore include the Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), Commander Coast Guard District No.3 (Karnataka) and the Commanding Officer, ICGS Mandapam. Prior his appointment to Western Seaboard, he was carrying out the important duties as Deputy Director General (Operation and Coastal Security) at Coast Guard Headquarters New Delhi for more than 04 years and oversaw successful execution of major operations for the Coast Guard.
The Flag Officer is a specialist Communication and Electronic Warfare Officer. He is also alumnus of prestigious National Defence College New Delhi, Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The Officer also has various academic achievements viz M.Sc (Telecommunications), M.Sc (Defence Strategic Studies), M.Phil (Defence Strategic Studies), PGDBA in OPS MGMT and PGDBA in HRM with core specialisation in Mathematics from the University of Madras.
The Flag Officer is a recipient of the prestigious President’s Tatrakshak Medal and Tatrakshak Medal for his distinguished service to the nation. He has been commended by Director General Indian Coast Guard and was also awarded Special Operation Badge – for successful maritime safety operation off Sri Lankan coast in 2020 & 2021.
