Mumbai: 22nd ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor in Mumbai . Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated the 22nd ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’, a festival of theater as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai on Tuesday (9 Aug).
The five-day festival has been jointly organised by the National School of Drama and the P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Akademi to pay tribute to the great leaders of the Indian freedom movement.
Film and theatre personality Rohini Hattangadi, Producer Director Satish Kaushik, Member of Central Board of Film Certification Vani Tripathi Tikku, Director of National School of Drama Professor Ramesh Chandra Gaur and Director of P L Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy Santosh Rokade were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Koshyari said theatre is an important medium to spread joy, promote awareness and protect our rich heritage and culture. Mentioning that Maharashtra has a long tradition of theatre, he said theatre should be used to promote the spirit of nationalism and human values among the people.
Complimenting the National School of Drama for giving the nation a legion of top class theatre personalities, the Governor expressed the hope that the institution will continue to give more talented stars to theatre, films and the film industry.
Actor Vani Tripathi said, “It is commendable that NSD has identified plays showcasing the stories of our freedom fighters from across the country. We all need to work together to make our youth too aware about the festival and the stories being portrayed in the plays of the festival”.
Actor Rohini Hattangadi said, “The drama festival organized by the National School of Drama on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav is a commendable initiative and it is an inspiration to the younger generation”.
NSD Director Ramesh Chandra Gaur said that NSD has taken this initiative to remember the brave freedom fighters through various programmes on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
It was announced that the festival of drama will be open for the general public. The 5 day festival will feature Hindi Drama ‘I am Subhash’, ‘Gandhi-Ambedkar’, “August Kranti”, Marathi play “Tilak aani Agarkar” and Hindi play ‘Rang De Basanti Chola’.
