Mumbai: 17th Mumbai International Film Festival to be held in mixed format: Information of the festival director. The 17th Mumbai International Film Festival of Documentary , Documentary, Animation Films – MIFF is coming soon. MIFF 2022 will start on May 29 and the inaugural function will be held at the auditorium of Nehru Science Center , Worli. The festival will end on June 4, 2022. Delegates arriving for the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) will have the opportunity to see high quality , feature films on a variety of subjects at the festival. ” Registration of media representatives for this festival is starting from today. I invite all of you to register for the festival and come to the festival. This was stated by Ravindra Bhakar, Director General, Films Division and Director, MIFF. He informed about the festival at a press conference in Mumbai today. For the festival , registration will be completely free for all students above the age of 18 , he added. He also clarified that no admission fee has been charged for the purpose of encouraging the students to participate in this festival . The 17th MIFF will be in mixed form , half , live and half online , he said. The National Film Development Corporation ( NFDC) has taken the initiative to arrange for online screening.
Maintaining its reputation , Mifff has received overwhelming response from filmmakers around the world. Bhakar said that 808 film entries from 30 countries were received for this year’s MIFF. At the festival , 120 films will be screened in the ‘Competition’ and ‘Miff Prism’ categories. In addition , special film packages , masterclasses and workshops for film lovers will also be the highlights of the festival.
The episode of the Netflix original series ” Mighty Little Bhim: I Love Taj Mahal ” will have its world premiere in MIFF 2022. Apart from that , MIFF will also have a special launch of the first India-Japan co-produced animated film ” Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama “. This animated film was first aired 30 years ago.
The director of the festival also informed about other activities being implemented by the films division. ” We want to promote this film commercially , ” he said. To this end, we coordinate with national and international organizations and individuals in this field . This will create endless opportunities for filmmakers , such as ‘ Be to Be’. ”
Highlights:
- This year , the country has been selected as the ” Country of Focus ” to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence . Under this , 11 films from Bangladesh will be screened at the festival. It also includes the critically acclaimed film ” Hasina – A Daughter’s Tale”.
- In India , information about the contribution of Films Division in the production of documentaries will also be shown through a special package , ” Image Nation ” .
- Other special packages , such as the Oscar Film Package , Shorts TV , a special package for Italian and Japanese films , the films recently screened at Indian Panorama-Effie will also be the center of attraction.
- In special package for students , National Institute of Design , Ahmedabad , Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute , Kolkata , Maharashtra Institute of Technology , Pune , K. R. The films will be made by various reputed institutes like Narayanan Film Institute Kerala. In addition , Myanmar’s animated films and documentaries will be screened at the Animation Film Festival Brazil.
- Apart from this , a film about Northeast India , a short film from Pocket Films platform , and a revived video of Satyajit Ray’s ruined film ‘ Sukumar Re’ will also be screened.
- Other features include open discussion of Indian documentary makers-directors and cultural events organized by India Tourism.
Masterclasses
In MIFF 2022, masterclasses and workshops will be organized by experts in the field of film industry. Some of the masterclasses in MIFF-2022 are Padma Shri Rasul Pukutty’s ‘Aesthetics of Sound in Film’, and Rizwan Ahmed’s ‘Cinema Expansion from Screen to OTT Platforms – Cinema in the Post-Kovid Era’.
Oscar and Jury Carter Pilcher of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA) will give information on ‘Eligible Films for the Oscars’.
Animation film designer PC Sanath’s workshop on ‘VFX: The Ever-Evolving Tool for Storytelling’ will also be a treat for film lovers.
Review and tribute
Animation lovers will be able to enjoy a package of old movies from Portugal, Russia and Canada. Films by Portuguese animator Regina Peso; Russian animation director, Alexander Petrov; The film by Canadian animator and illustrator Janet Pearlman will be a treat for animation lovers.
Documentary and animation-style film directors who have left you in recent times will be remembered with special screenings under the ‘Homes’ section: featuring Canadian pin-screen animator, Jacques Druin ; Cecilia Mangini, Italy’s first female documentary director; Indian veteran Buddhadev Dasgupta; All-rounder Sumitra Bhave; Among them is renowned national award winning photographer Irom Maipak from Manipur.
Golden Conch for Best Picture ; Special award for the film ‘India @ 75’
The 17th MIFF’s most prestigious award, the Golden Conch, will be presented to the best film of the festival. This is a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. Other prizes include cash prizes ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 lakh, including silver shells, trophies and certificates.
One lakh and trophy IDPA award for Best Student Film and Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Award for Best Debut Director will also be given on the closing day.
Rs 10 lakh in cash, trophies and testimonials . The V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a film director for his documentary and significant contribution to the Indian film movement. Prizes in various competition categories will be presented at the closing ceremony on June 4.
