Alll agencies of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Government of India are working in unison towards achieving the goal of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Drug-free India’
In today’s special drive, drugs worth about Rs 1,864 crore are being destroyed by NCB Delhi, NCB Ahmedabad and Gujarat Police, along with this, about 1.65 Lakh kg of confiscated drugs have been destroyed so far.
It is very important to crack down on heroin smuggling from the West coast of the country and Gujarat has done a great job in this direction, I congratulate Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Affairs in the Government of Gujarat, Shri Harsh Sanghvi and Gujarat Police.
Narcotics are impacting our youth, illegal money coming from its trade is also financing terrorism, to strike a blow on both these fronts the Government of India, all the agencies of State Governments and the police should work jointly with one objective.
By adopting top to bottom and bottom to top approach, there is need to destroy the entire network of drugs by attacking both the source and destination of drugs.
A total of 1,257 cases were registered from 2006 to 2013 while 3,172 cases were registered from 2014 to 2022, an increase of 152 percent.
From 2006 to 2013, a total of 1.52 lakh kg of drugs were seized, which increased to 3.33 lakh kg from 2014 to 2022, the value of which was Rs. 768 crore, which is now Rs. 20,000 crore.
Such regional conventions have led to the creation of district-level NCORD, increased use of FSLs, and an increase in number of requests from State administrations seeking permission for special courts in State High Courts.
Drug proliferation is not a Centre or State issue but it is a National issue and efforts to combat this should also be national.
NCORD meetings should be held regularly at all levels to enable effective coordination between Central and State agencies and to formulate effective policies as well as Action Plans.
With upgradation of Forensic Science Laboratory in the Western Region there is inclusion of Police Modernization Scheme and taking of assistance from Forensic Directorate.
