The President of India, Draupadi Murmu graced a commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption at the Central Hall of Parliament House, emphasizing its significance as the cornerstone of India’s democratic republic.
In her address, the President reflected on the historic day when the Constituent Assembly, after nearly three years of deliberation, adopted the Constitution. She highlighted its roots in the ideals of the freedom struggle, enshrining justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity in the Preamble.
The President underscored the Constitution as a living document, capable of adapting to changing times, and noted the strides achieved in social justice and inclusive development. She called for collective efforts from the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, and citizens to uphold the ideals of unity, environmental protection, dignity of women, and scientific temper, all of which are embedded in the Fundamental Duties.
She appreciated recent government initiatives aimed at uplifting weaker sections and acknowledged the judiciary’s role in enhancing the efficiency of the judicial system. The President also highlighted India’s emergence as a global leader and promoter of peace, fulfilling the Directive Principles envisioned by the framers of the Constitution.
Celebrations like ‘Samvidhan Divas,’ she noted, have raised awareness among the youth about the Constitution since their inception in 2015. Concluding her address, the President called upon citizens to embody Constitutional ideals and work towards achieving the national goal of a developed India by 2047.
