More than 5,000 runners gathered at Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, on April 20, 2025, for the inaugural edition of Soldierathon, an event designed to pay homage to the sacrifices and dedication of Indian soldiers. Organized jointly by Army Hospital (R&R) and Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat, the event welcomed veterans, active personnel, civilians, students, and fitness enthusiasts in a nationwide display of unity and patriotism.
The Soldierathon featured three race categories tailored for diverse participation—the 10 km timed run, the 5 km fun run, and a 3 km walk. Participants ran alongside Indian soldiers, drawing inspiration from their perseverance, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national service.
The event was formally flagged off by Governor of Mizoram General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), accompanied by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area, DGMS (Navy), DGMS (Air), and Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R). The atmosphere was infused with patriotic fervor, as attendees paid heartfelt tributes to the nation’s armed forces.
Beyond its symbolic significance, the event served a philanthropic purpose by raising funds for the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre in Kirkee, Pune. The center specializes in providing medical care, rehabilitation, and essential support to soldiers who have sustained life-altering injuries while serving the country. The overwhelming response underscored the collective commitment to honoring and assisting those who have selflessly dedicated their lives to national service.
The success of the first Soldierathon reaffirmed public appreciation for the armed forces and underscored the role of community-driven initiatives in supporting injured soldiers. Organizers aim to expand future editions to encourage greater participation and awareness, further strengthening the bond between civilians and the military. The event embodied the spirit of resilience, unity, and gratitude, making it a landmark celebration of India’s military heroes.
