As of January 28, over 305 million unorganised workers have been registered on the e-Shram Portal to receive benefits under various social welfare schemes, the Parliament was informed on Monday. The e-Shram Portal registered over 12.3 million workers in 2024, averaging 33,700 enrolments per day, according to Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje.
Launched on August 26, 2021, the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) aims to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) seeded with Aadhaar. The portal provides unorganised workers with a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis.
Currently, 12 schemes from different Central Ministries are integrated with the e-Shram Portal, which is accessible in 22 Indian languages. The portal is also linked with the National Career Service (NCS) Portal, allowing unorganised workers to search for job opportunities using their UAN. Additionally, e-Shram is integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) pension scheme, offering a monthly pension of $36 after the age of 60. The Centre contributes 50% of the scheme’s cost, with the remaining amount contributed by the worker.
The e-Shram portal has provisions to capture family details of migrant workers and share data of construction workers with states and Union Territories for registration in respective Buildings and other Construction Workers (BoCW) boards. To enhance skills and apprenticeship opportunities, e-Shram is integrated with the Skill India Digital portal of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, e-Shram is linked with the myScheme portal, a national platform offering one-stop search and discovery of government schemes based on citizen eligibility. Launched as a “One-Stop-Solution” on October 21, 2024, e-Shram integrates various social welfare schemes, enabling unorganised workers to access social security schemes and track benefits.
So far, 12 schemes from different Central ministries have been integrated with e-Shram, including the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Prime Minister Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), PM Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), PM Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
