The Padma Awards are categorized into three tiers: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Notably, all citizens, irrespective of race, occupation, or gender, are eligible for consideration. However, government employees, excluding doctors and scientists, are not eligible for these honors. The government has emphasized its commitment to transforming these awards into “People’s Padma,” urging citizens to actively participate by nominating deserving individuals. Self-nominations are also encouraged.
The government has called for a concerted effort to identify and nominate talented individuals, particularly those from marginalized communities, including women, individuals from weaker sections, Scheduled Castes and Tribes, and persons with disabilities. The aim is to celebrate and acknowledge those who have made significant contributions to society through selfless service.
The nomination process is exclusively conducted online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. Detailed instructions, including the format and necessary information for submissions, are available on this platform. Nominations must include a well-drafted citation, limited to 800 words, that clearly highlights the nominee’s distinguished and exceptional achievements in their field.
