The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the commencement of the nomination process for the Padma Awards 2026. Initiated on March 15, 2025, the process will remain open until July 31, 2025. These prestigious civilian awards, presented annually on Republic Day, honor exceptional and distinguished contributions across various domains, including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science, public affairs, civil service, and industry.

The Padma Awards are categorized into three tiers: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Since their institution in 1954, these awards have been a symbol of excellence and recognition for individuals whose contributions have profoundly impacted their respective fields and society. Notably, all citizens, irrespective of race, occupation, or gender, are eligible for consideration. However, government employees, excluding doctors and scientists, are not eligible for these honors. The government has emphasized its commitment to transforming these awards into “People’s Padma,” urging citizens to actively participate by nominating deserving individuals. Self-nominations are also encouraged.

The government has called for a concerted effort to identify and nominate talented individuals, particularly those from marginalized communities, including women, individuals from weaker sections, Scheduled Castes and Tribes, and persons with disabilities. The aim is to celebrate and acknowledge those who have made significant contributions to society through selfless service.

The nomination process is exclusively conducted online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. Detailed instructions, including the format and necessary information for submissions, are available on this platform. Nominations must include a well-drafted citation, limited to 800 words, that clearly highlights the nominee’s distinguished and exceptional achievements in their field.

Additional information, including statutes and rules governing the awards, is accessible on the official websites of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Padma Awards Portal. Resources are also provided under the “Awards and Medals” section on the Ministry’s website, ensuring transparency and ease of access for citizens.

The Padma Awards, widely regarded as one of India’s highest civilian honors, continue to celebrate excellence, inspire achievements, and recognize contributions that enrich the nation. The forthcoming 2026 awards promise to uphold this legacy, honoring individuals whose work embodies the spirit of dedication, innovation, and impact.
