India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) celebrated its 7th Foundation Day with an event held at Ahmedabad General Post Office (GPO), highlighting its significant contributions to financial inclusion and digital banking. The ceremony, led by Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav, showcased IPPB’s progress and its impact on delivering public welfare schemes to remote and underserved areas.
During the event, Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav noted that IPPB has played a crucial role in integrating various welfare schemes into the lives of citizens through its ‘Aapka Bank, Aapke Dwar’ initiative. Launched nationwide on September 1, 2018, IPPB has since been instrumental in providing paperless and cashless banking services, significantly advancing financial inclusion across rural areas.
Yadav emphasized that IPPB has effectively extended banking services to the most isolated regions, leveraging technology and innovative approaches to deliver essential services. This includes Aadhaar enrollment for children, mobile updates through the CELC service, and various insurance products. He highlighted that more than 33 lakh IPPB accounts are currently operational within the Gujarat circle alone.
In the current financial year, IPPB in Gujarat has achieved notable milestones, including providing general insurance to 1.19 lakh individuals, facilitating mobile updates for 1.80 lakh people, and enrolling 2,571 children in Aadhaar under the CELC program. Additionally, Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) amounting to Rs 242 crore have been made to over 15 lakh beneficiaries.
Yadav also underscored the role of postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks as mobile banking agents, extending services such as digital life certificates, DBT, Aadhaar-enabled payment systems, bill payments, and various insurance schemes. The focus on financial services accessibility for women is evident, with 44% of IPPB’s customers being female, reflecting the bank’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
Dr. Rajeev Awasthi, Assistant General Manager of IPPB, reiterated the bank’s dedication to providing comprehensive financial solutions through the extensive and reliable network of the Department of Posts. The celebration at Ahmedabad GPO included the inauguration of the event by Yadav, alongside IPPB’s Independent Director Jayshree Vrajlal Doshi, AGM Rajeev Awasthi, Chief Manager Kapil Mantri, and Chief Postmaster Ritul Gandhi. Awards were presented to officials for their exemplary performance in advancing IPPB’s mission.
