Makar Sankranti, the festival heralding the end of winter and the arrival of longer days, was celebrated with unmatched fervor at the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. The first Amrit Snan (holy dip) on this auspicious day transformed the Triveni Sangam into a divine tapestry, drawing over 3.5 crore devotees in a single day.

The sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers saw pilgrims from across the globe taking the holy dip to seek purification, prosperity, and blessings. Many devotees offered Arghya to the Sun God, symbolizing the festival’s spiritual and astronomical significance. Rituals, including offerings of sesame seeds and khichdi, were performed with deep reverence.

International attendees added a global dimension to the event. Sudarshan, a visitor from California, USA, shared, “I had a life-changing experience at the Ardh Kumbh six years ago, and I returned to seek blessings and connect with the spiritual energy unique to this place.”

The Akharas, particularly the Naga Sadhus, captivated the crowd with their regal processions. Adorned with traditional weapons, they performed the holy dip with grandeur, chanting hymns and adding to the festival’s spiritual energy.

Despite the massive turnout, the Uttar Pradesh administration ensured seamless crowd management and safety. Police, volunteers, and barricades guided the millions of devotees, maintaining the festival’s peaceful atmosphere.

As the sun set, the banks of the Sangam glowed with floating diyas, a symbol of hope and prayers carried to the divine. For the millions gathered, Makar Sankranti at Maha Kumbh 2025 was not just a ritual but a profound experience of faith, unity, and spirituality.
