India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has called for enhanced offensive and defensive capabilities in response to global instability. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Singh emphasized the importance of maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region, linking it directly to the country’s economic prosperity. He highlighted the need for robust planning and resource allocation to safeguard India’s territorial waters and ensure the safety of its sea routes.
With geopolitical tensions rising, Singh underscored the critical role of the Indian Navy in maintaining security and freedom of navigation. He pointed to the commissioning of three domestically built warships—INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer—as milestones in strengthening the Navy’s capabilities. Singh warned of potential threats in the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, and adjacent areas, stressing the need for increased naval presence to mitigate risks.
Cybersecurity emerged as a key focus, with Singh describing it as an essential component of maritime security. He urged the Armed Forces to prioritize cybersecurity to prevent potentially catastrophic attacks, highlighting plans for a comprehensive awareness campaign within the military.
Singh also celebrated the contributions of civilian personnel, whom he described as “soldiers without uniforms.” He praised their behind-the-scenes efforts in logistics, administration, and technical support, which are vital to the military’s success. He reiterated the government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting the civilian workforce through initiatives such as financial security schemes.
In his remarks, Singh reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the holistic development of India, advocating for a “Whole of the People” approach to national security and development. He expressed confidence that collective efforts would propel India toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of a prosperous and resilient India.
The event also showcased the artistic talents of Naval Civilians, featuring exhibitions and performances that celebrated their contributions. Singh presented awards to outstanding civilians, acknowledging their exceptional dedication and professionalism.
