A remarkable all-women tri-services circumnavigation sailing expedition, Samudra Pradakshina, commenced its 55-day voyage from Mumbai to Seychelles and back on April 7, 2025. The expedition was flagged off by the Commandant of the College of Military Engineering at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre in Colaba, Mumbai.

This pioneering initiative features a 12-member all-women crew drawn from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. The crew embarked on a challenging journey covering 4,000 nautical miles aboard the IASV Triveni. The expedition underscores the indomitable spirit of Nari Shakti and aims to promote gender parity in maritime endeavors. It also serves as a preparatory phase for an even more ambitious circumnavigation voyage planned for 2026.

The participating women officers were selected from a pool of 41 enthusiastic volunteers and underwent rigorous training over the past two years in ocean sailing. Their preparation included a series of increasingly complex training expeditions, where they navigated challenging conditions such as unpredictable weather and mechanical issues. These voyages tested their resilience, courage, and determination while refining their expertise.

The expedition symbolizes not only the empowerment of women in the armed forces but also pays homage to India’s legendary warrior queens, including Rani Velu Nachiyar, Rani Durgavati, and Rani Lakshmi Bai, whose legacies continue to inspire generations.

The flagging-in ceremony is scheduled for May 30, 2025, marking the successful completion of this groundbreaking voyage. This initiative reaffirms India’s commitment to inclusivity and excellence in maritime endeavors while showcasing the unstoppable force of Nari Shakti.
