Yai Sail India 2023 At Mumbai From 24 To 31 January 2023
Sail India is an annual sailing extravaganza held in the month of Dec – Jan every year off Girgaon Chowpatty hosted by the Army Yachting Node, Mumbai with the support of the Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area Sailing Club, Mumbai. The last two editions of the event in 2019 and 2021 were conducted in the month of December and witnessed participation by approximately 200 sailors in each year from various clubs across the country. The event could not be held in 2020 due to COVID 19 related restrictions.
The event is one of a kind in Mumbai showcasing the city as a prime destination for the sport of sailing and attracting thousands of viewers both at Chowpatty and along the Queens Necklace i.e Marine Drive. It also showcases the commitment of the Army Yachting Node to bring the sport of sailing closer to the common man and make it visible for all.
YAI Sail India 2023 is being conducted by under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI) with the support of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for both senior and junior classes of boats from 24 to 30 Jan 23. The event is a YAI ranking event and second selection trial for the forthcoming Asian Games scheduled in China in Sep 23. The races will be conducted in the bay area of Girgaum Chowpatty, Mumbai.
Over 165 sailors, from 15 sailing clubs across the country, have registered for the event. A series of 12 races per class are scheduled in 15 classes of boats viz. ILCA 7, ILCA 6, 49er, 49erFX, 470 (mixed), NACRA 17 (mixed), RS:X (men & women), IQ Foil (men & women), Formula Kite (men & women) for senior classes and ILCA 4 (boys & girls), Optimist for junior classes.
A team of event officials including World Sailing qualified International Race Officers, International Judges and Measurers including qualified race officials will be ensuring fair conduct of races and level playing ground to all the competitors.
Racing for the sub junior/junior class (Optimist Class) commenced on 23rd Jan 2023 and for the senior classes from 26th Jan 2023.
